May 1st is National Purebred Dog Day. (NPDD)

Did you know that in some states, like Colorado, National Purebred Dog Day is considered a holiday? It sure is!

On March 10th, the Colorado House and Senate passed Joint Resolution 15-1015, Making Colorado the first state to designate May 1st as National Purebred Dog Day.

The day was created by Susi Szeremy, a fellow blogger, breeder and dog show fancier. Last year Susi realized that there was a  National Dog Day, National Mutt Day, National Rescue Day, National Puppy Day and even a National Poop Scoop Day (she left of National Slobber Appreciation Day ) but there wasn’t a day to honor the Purebred Dog.

So Susi worked hard and created a day where Purebred Dogs could be celebrated and owners of Purebred Dogs could proudly but humbly display their love of their desired breeds without being shamed for it.

“National Purebred Dog Day gives purebred dog owners a public platform on which to celebrate the heritage, diversity and versatility of our different dog breeds. On one day at least, surely we can link arms to beat back the mischaracterization of purebred dog ownership by those who would see our demise.”

I’ve been lucky enough to hang with Susi on a few occasions at blogging events and I can tell you first hand she is someone we want on our side. She’s amazing and professional and awesome. She knows firsthand what it’s like to be a purebred dog owner these days and she’s someone we want and need advocating for the purebred dog.

You can read Susi’s post for more information and make sure your following NPDD on Facebook.

There will also be some great prizes up for grabs and you can read all about that here! It’s an International event so everyone check it out and participate if you can! Newfie peeps-there’s a dog drier and a gift certificate for Pet Empawrium up for grabs!

A small word of advice if I may: Last year’s NPDD went pretty smoothly without much interference from outside parties but this year has already proven to be a different story so if you encounter any negative responses PLEASE ignore and do not engage. It’s not worth your time and it takes away from the day.

I’ve already had my fair share the past few weeks and it’s been ignored or deleted.

And since I know there will be a fair share of haters reading this post, this is for you: (Non-haters can STOP reading now or not.)

If someone wants to debate this subject in person, I’m all for it.

I’m not a coward or a bitch.

I’m just not battling on Facebook, Twitter or via email. I’m to busy for that. I’ve got kids and dogs and laundry and a full time job.

I’m NOT to busy to meet for a burger and a beer and debate with you though.

Better yet, let’s meet at a dog friendly pub.

You bring your dogs and I’ll bring mine.

We’ll have a beer and a burger and a chat.

With our dogs by our side.

I’ll be out at various dog related functions this summer- some purebred some not, we could meet up there and grab a beer.

I’ll be in Tennessee in May with a whole mess of other animal peeps and we could meet up there and grab a beer.

We just always have to make sure there’s a beer to grab.

I’m not a lush- I’m just much better company with a beer in hand and a dog by my side when I’m defending my freedom of choice to own a purebred dog for the millionth time.
